Biografía. / Biography.

«Nací en Buenos Aires, en 1974. A los 12 años me anoté en un taller de actuación, después de leer en un artículo que quedar en el recuerdo de los otros era la única manera de vencer a la muerte. Se ve que actuar, actividad que implica siempre un equipo y un público, me pareció entonces un buen camino para generar recuerdos. Después de aquél taller vinieron otros, con maestros como Juan Carlos Gené, Ricardo Bartís, Rubén Szuchmacher y maestras como Cristina Banegas. Pasé también por la Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramático y por la Licenciatura en Artes Combinadas de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, dejando ambas carreras inconclusas. A los 18 empecé a actuar, dirigido por Leonor Manso, Daniel Veronese, y Rubén Szuchmacher, entre otros. Digamos que la vida me trajo a España, habiendo dirigido un montaje en Buenos Aires, y con una obra escrita. Esa obra era "Muda" y fue mi primer estreno en Madrid. A "Muda" le siguieron varios montajes de textos propios y ajenos, estrenando en el Centro Dramático Nacional, Teatre Lliure, Teatro del Barrio, Teatro de la Abadía, Teatro Pradillo, Matadero Madrid y Nave 73, entre otros.» (Pablo Messiez).

"I was born in Buenos Aires in 1974. At the age of 12, I enrolled in an acting workshop after reading in an article that being remembered by others was the only way to defeat death. It seems that acting, an activity that always involves a team and an audience, seemed to me at the time a good way to generate memories. After that workshop, I took others with teachers like Juan Carlos Gené, Ricardo Bartís, Rubén Szuchmacher, and masters like Cristina Banegas. I also attended the National School of Dramatic Art and the Bachelor's Degree in Combined Arts at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Buenos Aires, leaving both careers unfinished. At 18, I began acting, directed by Leonor Manso, Daniel Veronese, and Rubén Szuchmacher, among others. Let's say life brought me to Spain, after having directed a production in Buenos Aires, and with a written play. That play was *Muda*, and it was my first premiere in Madrid. *Muda* was followed by several productions of my own and others' texts, premiering at the Centro Dramático Nacional, Teatre Lliure, Teatro del Barrio, Teatro de la Abadía, Teatro Pradillo, Matadero Madrid, and Nave 73, among others.» (Pablo Messiez).

Escritura. / Style.

«Espero escribir sobre lo que no sé. Quiero decir, que escribo para teatro, procurando no caer en la tentación de dar lecciones de nada, sino de dejar en la obra suficiente espacio como para que respire y me cuente algo que no sabía antes de montarla. Escribo sin plan, de noche y en voz alta. Reescribo de día, procurando que sólo quede lo que me altere el ritmo cardíaco. A veces me sale. A veces no. Escribo para poner en escena. Así que mis textos son materiales de trabajo, incompletos, irregulares y abiertos. Escribo sólo cuando necesito escribir.» (Pablo Messiez).

«I hope to write about what I don't know. I mean, I write for the theater, trying not to fall into the temptation of giving lessons on anything, but rather leaving enough space in the work for it to breathe and tell me something I didn’t know before staging it. I write without a plan, at night and out loud. I rewrite during the day, trying to ensure that only what disturbs my heartbeat remains. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. I write to put it on stage. So my texts are working materials, incomplete, irregular, and open. I write only when I need to write.» (Pablo Messiez).
