Biografía. / Biography.

Nació en Sevilla en 1988 y desde pequeño se interesó por este juego de combinar palabras. Por algún motivo pensó que sería buena idea estudiar Periodismo. Se licenció en la Universidad de Sevilla y lo ejerce como puede. Por el camino tuvo la suerte de cruzarse con gente de teatro (Jose Chía, sobre todo) que se ofreció a montar sus cosas. Conoció a otros dramaturgos (Antonio Rincón Cano, David Montero, Luis Felipe Blasco Vilches) que le explicaron las cuatro reglas. Todavía no tiene claro si encontró su vocación o su redención. Ha estrenado varios espectáculos y por uno de ellos, El peso de Judas, lo nominaron como autor a los Premios Escenarios de Sevilla. Por La noche en llamas se llevó una mención de honor en el Certamen Suso de Marcos de Málaga. Además ha publicado '¿Dónde estaré esta noche? | El peso de Judas' (Atopía Editorial, 2021) y 'Cartas' (Editorial Anantes, 2014), junto al poemario 'Barro' (Ediciones en Huida, 2013) y 'El leñador de sombras y otros cuentos' (Ediciones en Huida, 2010). Y ahí sigue.

He was born in Seville in 1988 and from a young age became fascinated with this game of combining words. For some reason he thought studying Journalism would be a good idea. He graduated from the University of Seville and practices it as best he can. Along the way, he was lucky enough to cross paths with theatre people (especially José Chía) who offered to stage his work. He met other playwrights (Antonio Rincón Cano, David Montero, Luis Felipe Blasco Vilches) who taught him the basics. He’s still not sure whether he found his vocation or his redemption. He has premiered several plays, and for one of them, El peso de Judas, he was nominated as Best Playwright at the Premios Escenarios de Sevilla. For La noche en llamas he received an Honourable Mention at the Certamen Suso de Marcos in Málaga. He has also published ¿Dónde estaré esta noche? | El peso de Judas (Atopía Editorial, 2021) and Cartas (Editorial Anantes, 2014), along with the poetry collection Barro (Ediciones en Huida, 2013) and El leñador de sombras y otros cuentos (Ediciones en Huida, 2010). And that’s where he remains.

Escritura. / Style.

«Vengo de la poesía. Me gusta pensar que las palabras tienen algo alrededor, como los electrones de los átomos, y que si juntas unas con otras pasan cosas. Como cuando haces chocar dos piedras, saltan las chispas y descubres el fuego. A veces el calor de dentro de las palabras crece, va de unas a otras, las preña, yo qué sé. De la dramaturgia me gustan dos cosas: primero, que tiene sus propias normas, no son fijas del todo y convierten esto en un juego; segundo, que el calor de unas manos pasa a otras manos y así tu trabajo sólo puede crecer. Me gusta pensar que las palabras escritas para ser encarnadas pueden arañar la escena y quién sabe si la misteriosa dimensión del tiempo. Pueden alcanzar a alguien, pero no para matarlo sino todo lo contrario. Y por lo demás: me gustan las estructuras abiertas, influencia de los videojuegos; abrir puertas para que pueda ocurrir de todo en la escena; jugar con ese no saber qué ocurre mientras ocurre; y cuando escribo comedia, divertirme.» (Borja de Diego).

“I come from poetry. I like to think that words have something around them, like electrons around atoms, and that when you bring some together, things happen. Like when you strike two stones and sparks fly—you discover fire. Sometimes the heat inside the words grows, moves from one to another, makes them fertile, I don’t know. What I love about playwriting are two things: first, that it has its own rules, not entirely fixed, which makes it a game; and second, that the warmth of one pair of hands passes to another, so your work can only grow. I like to think that words written to be embodied can scratch the stage—and who knows, maybe even the mysterious dimension of time. They can reach someone, but not to kill them, quite the opposite. And beyond that, I like open structures—an influence from video games; opening doors so that anything can happen on stage; playing with not knowing what’s happening while it happens; and when I write comedy, just having fun.” (Borja de Diego)
