Simon Breden es traductor de español a inglés especializado en teatro contemporáneo y textos escénicos. Entre sus traducciones publicadas destacan obras de María Prado (On/From Debris, Theatre Forum), Denise Despeyroux (Black Tenderness, Cue Press), Federico García Lorca (Dragon, Routledge) y Alfredo Sanzol (On the Moon). Sus traducciones de Alfredo Sanzol se encuentran actualmente en proceso de publicación con la editorial Routledge. Además de su obra publicada, ha traducido a numerosos dramaturgos de referencia, como Antonio Buero Vallejo, Juan Mayorga, Miguel del Arco, Vanessa Montfort y Esther Carrodeguas, con lecturas, talleres y producciones en instituciones como el Royal Court Theatre, el Soho Theatre y el Cervantes Theatre de Londres. Su traducción de Los vivos y los muertos, de Ignacio García May, obtuvo el segundo premio del Gate Theatre Translation Award en 2003. Paralelamente a su labor como traductor, desarrolla una trayectoria como director de escena, destacando Doctor Faustus, dirigido en los Teatros del Canal de Madrid en 2012. En la actualidad es profesor en la Universidad de Deusto, donde imparte clases de traducción, literatura y teatro español, integrando investigación académica y práctica escénica.
Simon Breden is a Spanish–English translator specializing in contemporary Spanish theatre and performance texts. His published translations include works by María Prado (On/From Debris, Theatre Forum), Denise Despeyroux (Black Tenderness, Cue Press), Federico García Lorca (Dragon, Routledge), and Alfredo Sanzol (On the Moon). His translations of Alfredo Sanzol are forthcoming with Routledge. In addition to his published work, he has translated a wide range of leading Spanish-language playwrights, including Antonio Buero Vallejo, Juan Mayorga, Miguel del Arco, Vanessa Montfort, and Esther Carrodeguas, with presentations, workshops, and staged readings at institutions such as the Royal Court Theatre, Soho Theatre, and Cervantes Theatre in London. His translation of The Living and the Dead by Ignacio García May received second prize in the Gate Theatre Translation Award in 2003. Alongside his work as a translator, he is an experienced theatre director, having directed Doctor Faustus at Teatros del Canal in Madrid in 2012. He is currently Lecturer at the University of Deusto, where he teaches translation, Spanish literature, and theatre. His practice bridges academic research and stage practice.
