Sinopsis. / Synopsis.

Alligator es un drama contemporáneo que explora el dolor, la esperanza, y la rabia de una protagonista que se ve en la tesitura de matar a su marido. Lidia, después de pegar un tiro a Tomás entre ceja y ceja, deambula por la ciudad de Nueva Oleans, hasta que decide sentarse rendida, en un parque situado en el Pantano Pontchartaine. Allí, un alligator será el testigo de la confesión de una marginada, desde ahora, para la sociedad. La historia que narra Lidia al Alligator es la historia de una víctima de violencia machista contada a través de monólogos en tiempo presente y flasbacks en los que la protagonista dialoga con su difunto marido y su amante Carlota.

Alligator is a contemporary drama that explores the pain, hope and rage of a protagonist who finds herself in the position of having to kill her husband. Lidia, after shooting Tomás between the eyebrows, wanders through the city of New Orleans until she decides to sit down, exhausted, in a park located in the Pontchartrain Swamp. There, an alligator will be the witness to the confession of a woman who is now marginalised by society. The story Lidia tells the alligator is the story of a victim of gender-based violence, told through monologues in the present tense and flashbacks in which the protagonist dialogues with her deceased husband and her lover Carlota.

Así empieza Aligator, la última obra teatral de la dramaturga gallega Mariña Prieto, quien escribió el texto durante su estancia en la Fundación Antonio Gala, como parte de esta última promoción de residentes."

Her interlocutor is an alligator, a kind of large and fierce crocodile. She confesses to it that she has just killed her husband, while those expressionless eyes are getting closer and closer. This is how Alligator begins, the latest play by Galician playwright Mariña Prieto, who wrote the text during her stay at the Fundación Antonio Gala, as part of the latest cohort of residents.”

Biografía. / Biography.

Mariña Prieto nace en 1994 en Santiago de Compostela. Inicia su formación actoral en la Escola de Teatro Pábulo. En 2013 se traslada a Madrid para formarse como actriz en Estudio Corazza para el Actor. Dos años más tarde se matricula en la RESAD donde cursa Direcciión de escena y Dramaturgia. En 2016 recibe el premio Antón Zapata de poesía por su poema "Mar de amor, mar de muerte". Ha dirigido Inauguración de Václav Havel (Teatro de las Aguas, 2017) y realiza sus prácticas de dirección en La valentía de Alfredo Sanzol (El Pavón Teatro Kamikaze, 2018). Al graduarse, estudia el Máster Propio en Guión Audiovisual de Mediapro y la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Mariña Prieto was born in 1994 in Santiago de Compostela. She began her acting training at Escola de Teatro Pábulo. In 2013 she moved to Madrid to train as an actress at Estudio Corazza para el Actor. Two years later she enrolled at RESAD, where she studied Stage Direction and Dramaturgy. In 2016 she received the Antón Zapata Poetry Award for her poem "Mar de amor, mar de muerte". She directed Václav Havel's Inauguración (Teatro de las Aguas, 2017) and completed her directing internship with Alfredo Sanzol's La valentía (El Pavón Teatro Kamikaze, 2018). After graduating, she studied the Master's Degree in Audiovisual Screenwriting at Mediapro and the Complutense University of Madrid.

Escritura. / Style.

«El teatro me ha salvado la vida en más de una ocasión. Me ha salvado como espectadora, actriz, dramaturga y directora. Me ha salvado por su poder de cuestionamiento, emancipación, por poner en valor los márgenes, por escapar del mero entretenimiento. Creo firmemente en el teatro como encuentro con el otro. Mostrar lo íntimo al espectador. Trabajar lo íntimo con el equipo artístico y compartirlo. Cuando escribo parto de preguntas que me obsesionan. Preguntas en las que entro y no termino de salir. Pero en las que indago. Indago en lo referente al feminismo, la justicia y el humor. También indago en los mecanismos que pueden ayudarme a materializarlas. Son preguntas imposibles que como si de magia se tratara se concretan en historias contadas en un escenario y parece que pronto, en una pantalla.» (Mariña Prieto).

«Theatre has saved my life on more than one occasion. It has saved me as a spectator, actress, playwright and director. It has saved me through its power to question and emancipate, by valuing the margins and escaping mere entertainment. I firmly believe in theatre as an encounter with the other. Showing the intimate to the spectator. Working with the intimate alongside the artistic team and sharing it. When I write, I start from questions that obsess me. Questions that I enter into and never quite leave. But I investigate them. I investigate feminism, justice and humour. I also investigate the mechanisms that can help me materialise them. They are impossible questions which, as if by magic, take shape in stories told on stage and, it seems, soon on screen.» (Mariña Prieto).
