Sinopsis. / Synopsis.

En un instituto trabaja un extraño profesor que acostumbra a contar relatos protagonizados por animales. Es Esopo, que ha llegado hasta nosotros con sus fábulas debajo del brazo. Pero como las moralejas ya no siempre funcionan, ahora las fábulas son el punto de partida de once escenas independientes que abordan con ironía y desenfado las inquietudes, problemas e ilusiones de los adolescentes de hoy.

A strange teacher works in a school, telling stories whose lead characters are animals. He is Aesop, arrived among us with his Fables tucked under his arm. But, as morals don’t always work, the Fables are now the starting point for eleven stand-alone scenes. With irony and aplomb, they tackle the worries, troubles and hopes of today’s teenagers.

Con frecuencia, el teatro para niños y adolescentes está sobrecargado de paternalismo y pedagogía pelmaza. Otras veces es sencillamente estúpido, como si sus responsables pensaran que es así también el público al que se dirige. "De fábula" quiere trasladar a la escena la realidad adolescente con la intención explícita de no enseñar lección alguna, sino tan solo mostrar lo bello y lo feo que supone tener quince años sin imponer a los jóvenes un modelo de lo que deben ser.

Frequently, theater for children and adolescents is overloaded with paternalism and tedious pedagogy. Other times, it’s simply stupid, as if those in charge thought the audience they’re addressing is just as foolish. De fábula aims to bring adolescent reality to the stage with the explicit intention of not teaching any lesson, but merely showing the beauty and ugliness of being fifteen, without imposing a model of what young people should be.

Biografía. / Biography.

«Mis peripecias en el mundo del teatro empezaron en la compañía Sin Red Teatro, que Javier Olivares dirigió entre 1996 y 2006 en Fuenlabrada (Madrid). Allí aprendí, desde la práctica, cómo se crea un espectáculo. Consciente de podía aportar algo más como autor que como actor, empecé a escribir mientras estudiaba en la Facultad de Filología de la Complutense. Mi primera formación como dramaturgo vino de la mano de los talleres que Teatro del Astillero impartió en el Festival Madrid Sur y que dieron lugar a espectáculos como "Guardo la llave" o "La noche de Casandra". He logrado algunos premios, como el Arte Joven, UPM o Valle-Inclán, y becas como la de la Academia de España en Roma o ETC Cuarta Pared. Buena parte de mis obras han sido llevadas a escena por diversas compañías y publicadas en España, Estados Unidos, Italia, Argentina, Brasil, Grecia, Hungría, Croacia, Serbia... También he elaborado dramaturgias en colaboración, como "Intemperie", o adaptaciones, como "Julio César", "Quijote/Play" o "La sonrisa etrusca", de José Luis Sampedro, cuya producción fue protagonizada por Héctor Alterio en 2011. En los últimos años he combinado el teatro con la práctica docente en Bachillerato. En el IES Diego Velázquez de Torrelodones dirigí durante años una compañía juvenil, Teatraula, con la que representé en el María Guerrero mi obra "De fábula". Actualmente soy profesor de Artes escénicas en el IES Antonio Machado de Alcalá de Henares.» (Juan Pablo Heras).

«My experiences in the world of theater began in the company Sin Red Teatro, which Javier Olivares directed between 1996 and 2006 in Fuenlabrada (Madrid). There, I learned, through practice, how a show is created. Aware that I could contribute more as a writer than as an actor, I started writing while studying at the Faculty of Philology at the Complutense University. My first training as a playwright came from the workshops run by Teatro del Astillero at the Madrid Sur Festival, which led to shows like 'Guardo la llave' or 'La noche de Casandra'. I have won several awards, such as Arte Joven, UPM, and Valle-Inclán, as well as scholarships like the Academy of Spain in Rome and ETC Cuarta Pared. Many of my works have been staged by various companies and published in Spain, the United States, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Greece, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia... I have also developed dramaturgies in collaboration, such as 'Intemperie', or adaptations, like 'Julius Caesar', 'Quijote/Play', or 'The Etruscan Smile' by José Luis Sampedro, whose production was starred by Héctor Alterio in 2011. In recent years, I have combined theater with teaching practice at the high school level. At IES Diego Velázquez in Torrelodones, I led a youth company, Teatraula, with which I staged my play 'De fábula' at the María Guerrero Theater. I am currently a Performing Arts teacher at IES Antonio Machado in Alcalá de Henares.» (Juan Pablo Heras).

Escritura. / Style.

«Supongo que en mis textos late la perplejidad de aquel que busca su lugar en el mundo. De la búsqueda de una identidad en un mundo líquido y movedizo. La insatisfacción, el miedo o la búsqueda de aceptación son motores dramáticos infalibles, especialmente si los personajes sufren de manera genuina y consiguen que el público se conmueva o tiemble o se desternille. El individuo en el mundo y el mundo en el individuo. En la intersección problemática y equívoca entre esas dos esferas cavo en busca de materia viva para hacer teatro.» (Juan Pablo Heras).

«I guess that by reading my texts, you will hear the beat of perplexity of he/she who is searching for their place in the world. The beat of a search for an identity in a liquid and shifting world. Unsatisfaction, fear and the search for acceptance are infallible dramatic drivers: especially if the characters are genuinely suffering, and manage to move the audience or make them shudder or laugh. The individual in the world and the world in the individual. The problematic and misunderstood intersection between these two spheres is where I dig, searching for live material with which I can create theatre.» (Juan Pablo Heras).
