Sinopsis. / Synopsis.

En una sala de espera de una clínica de reproducción, su excéntrica dueña atiende a un donante de esperma y a una mujer que se quiere quedar embarazada. Sin embargo, su única obsesión es terminar con una misteriosa plaga de hormigas que asola la clínica. Una comedia intima que disecciona el deseo (o su falta) de tener hijos, en el mundo de la pareja.

In the waiting room of a fertility clinic, its eccentric owner tends to a sperm donor and a woman hoping to conceive. Yet her singular obsession is to eradicate a mysterious ant infestation plaguing the clinic. An intimate comedy that dissects the desire—or the absence of it—to have children within the world of couples.

Esta obra nace del concepto «tiempo». Y no hay tiempos más problemáticos que los tiempos que impone la norma social. Nacer, crecer, ir a la escuela, a la universidad, tener pareja, trabajo -estable, claro-, coche, matrimonio y, claro, hijos. ¿Pero qué pasa cuando una pareja que se ama se encuentra en “tiempos” distintos? ¿Puede alguien que no quiere ser padre o madre, dentro de una pareja que ama, sentirse como una hormiga a punto de ser aplastada por ese mandato? ¿Sentirse obligado por amor? ¿Quién debe ceder sus tiempos, sus modelos de vida? ¿Se debe romper, aunque se amen? ¿Si es así, por qué es tan determinante la reproducción, en el mundo de la pareja?

This play is born from the concept of “time.” And there are few times more problematic than those imposed by social norms: being born, growing up, going to school, university, having a partner, a stable job, a car, marriage—and, of course, children. But what happens when a couple in love find themselves in different “times”? Can someone who doesn’t want to become a parent, within a loving relationship, feel like an ant about to be crushed by that mandate? Feel obligated out of love? Who should yield their time, their life model? Should the couple break up, even if they love each other? And if so, why is reproduction so decisive in the world of coupledom?

Biografía. / Biography.

Daniel Casanovas (Torroella de Montgrí, 1991). Empiezo mi andadura dramática en el mundo del microteatro. Son ejemplos "Estimada Slovensko" (2020), "El temps de les formigues" (2021) o "Un quadre de Hopper" (2021), con los que participo y gano diferentes certámenes. Tras un encuentro casual, empiezo a colaborar con institutos para crear obras para adolescentes (2020-2022). A su vez, empiezo a colaborar con la compañía Cascai Teatre, quien me encarga adaptaciones y traducciones teatrales, como la de "Un tal Shakespeare" (2021). En 2022, fundamos la compañía teatral Grop, con quien estreno mi texto "Sempreviva. Una ficció administrativa" (2022), siendo finalista al Premio AGT al mejor espectáculo de la provincia de Girona 2022-2023, y posteriormente, en la senda del teatro breve "Julieta, Romeu i Julieta" (2023) y "Cendra" (2024). Textos y producciones con las que hacemos gira, algunas de ellas enlazadas con proyectos de teatro-foro en centros joven y locales sociales, donde el teatro y la cultura se convierte en comunidad y reflexión. Con estudios universitarios en Biomedicina y en Evolución Humana, empiezo mi formación en dramaturgia en la Sala Beckett-Obrador Internacional de Dramaturgia, de la mano de Helena Tornero, Sergio Blanco, María Velasco o Anja Hilling, finalizando su itinerario formativo (2024). Paralelamente, he complementado mi formación con multitud de seminarios y cursos en EADS Eòlia, Teatre Akadèmia o ASSITEJ España, entre otros.

Daniel Casanovas (Torroella de Montgrí, 1991). I began my dramatic journey in the world of microtheatre, with pieces such as Estimada Slovensko (2020), El temps de les formigues (2021) and Un quadre de Hopper (2021), which were awarded in various competitions. After a chance encounter, I started collaborating with secondary schools to create plays for teenagers (2020–2022). At the same time, I began working with the company Cascai Teatre, which commissioned me to write theatrical adaptations and translations, such as Un tal Shakespeare (2021). In 2022, we founded the theatre company Grop, with whom I premiered my play Sempreviva. Una ficció administrativa (2022), finalist for the AGT Award for Best Show in the Province of Girona 2022–2023, followed by short-format plays like Julieta, Romeu i Julieta (2023) and Cendra (2024). These texts and productions have toured, some of them linked to theatre-forum projects in youth centres and community spaces, where theatre and culture become tools for reflection and collective experience. With a university background in Biomedicine and Human Evolution, I began my training in playwriting at the Sala Beckett–Obrador Internacional de Dramatúrgia, studying under Helena Tornero, Sergio Blanco, María Velasco, and Anja Hilling, and completed the full programme in 2024. I have also supplemented my training through a wide range of workshops and courses at EADS Eòlia, Teatre Akadèmia, and ASSITEJ España, among others.

Escritura. / Style.

«Me gusta pensar que mi proceso de escritura se asemeja a un hallazgo arqueológico o a una autopsia. A un descubrimiento. Lo primero de todo es un indicio. Una imagen que irrumpe. Quién supiera de donde viene. Qué hemisferios cerebrales corrompió. Pero emerge de la tierra. O bajo las costillas. La observas. La analizas y vas abriendo carnes, heridas y huesos. O, simplemente, quitando tierra con las uñas, entre rocas. Nadie dijo que fueras a salir ileso. Unos personajes. Quizás, ya intuyes una historia. Sujetas, ahora, un pincel o un fino bisturí. Lecturas, canciones, caminatas y conversaciones. La imagen inicial cada vez contiene más universo. La tierra, el cuerpo, te va enseñando un mapa y tu lo sigues. O lo persigues, uno nunca sabe. Y para ello, usas la comedia. O la sátira, la tragedia, la autoficción o la meta-teatralidad, si hace falta. Lo anotas sobre papel y ahí sigues persiguiendo. A veces, ya dicen, no se sabe si uno cuenta la historia o es ella quien se cuenta a través de ti. De este modo, mi escritura se convierte en un proceso de exploración. De historias que necesito contar. O, quizás, contarme. Un proceso para darme respuestas. Esperanza. Alguien también dijo que el teatro debe ofrecer siempre nuevos mundos. Horizontes. Un ritual donde el dolor que esconde pueda ofrecer consuelo. O quizás, quien sabe, catarsis. Palabras dispuestas a desbordar escenarios.» (Daniel Casanovas).

«I like to think of my writing process as something akin to an archaeological find or an autopsy. A discovery. It all starts with a trace. An image that breaks through. Who knows where it comes from, what parts of the brain it’s corrupted. But it rises from the earth. Or from beneath the ribs. You observe it, you analyse it, and you begin to open up flesh, wounds and bones. Or maybe you just claw at the dirt, digging between rocks. No one said you’d come out unscathed. Some characters. Maybe you start to glimpse a story. You now hold a brush or a fine scalpel. Readings, songs, walks and conversations. The initial image grows to contain an entire universe. The soil, the body, begins to reveal a map and you follow it. Or chase it—you’re never quite sure. And for that you use comedy. Or satire, tragedy, autofiction or metatheatre, if needed. You write it down, and keep chasing. As they say, sometimes you don’t know if you’re telling the story or the story is telling itself through you. In this way, my writing becomes a process of exploration. Of stories I need to tell. Or perhaps to tell myself. A process to seek answers. Hope. Someone also said theatre should always offer new worlds. Horizons. A ritual where the pain it holds might offer comfort. Or maybe, who knows, catharsis. Words ready to overflow the stage.» (Daniel Casanovas).
