Biografía. / Biography.

Jan Vilanova estudió cine en la ESCAC en la especialidad de montaje. También es graduado en Historia por la Universidad de Barcelona. A lo largo de su carrera, ha combinado el trabajo de montador con la dramaturgia, estrenando en teatros como el TNC, Teatre LLiure o la Sala Beckett. En 2013 crea la productora teatral Sixto Paz con un grupo de amigos, hasta que en 2019 emprende su propio camino. En los últimos años ha desarrollado la labor de profesor en escritura dramática. Paralelamente ha colaborado con algunas revistas como Política&Prosa y La maleta de Portbou.

Jan Vilanova studied film at ESCAC, specializing in editing, and also holds a degree in History from the University of Barcelona. Throughout his career, he has combined his work as an editor with dramaturgy, premiering plays at venues such as the TNC, Teatre Lliure, and Sala Beckett. In 2013, he co-founded the theater company Sixto Paz with a group of friends, before embarking on his own path in 2019. In recent years, he has also worked as a teacher of dramatic writing. At the same time, he has collaborated with magazines such as Política&Prosa and La maleta de Portbou.

«Verano de 2025: después de unos cuantos años, reescribo completamente esta sección. Demasiadas certezas perdidas, muchas más preguntas que respuestas en términos de qué es la escritura, qué es mi escritura, qué hace que algo sea interesante. Qué buena noticia, en realidad, esta nueva situación. Me atrae la vida humana, los seres humanos: nuestras sombras, nuestras contradicciones, torpezas, deseos... Intento que todo esto aparezca en mis obras. Me atrae mucho, también, la historia. Comencé a estudiarla pasados los treinta pensando que perdía el tiempo y se ha convertido en una parte inseparable de mi dramaturgia y de mi vida. Intento cambiar, descubrir nuevos territorios, probar otras formas de narrar.» (Jan Vilanova Claudín).

«Summer 2025: after a few years, I completely rewrite this section. Too many certainties lost, far more questions than answers about what writing is, what my writing is, what makes something interesting. In truth, this new situation feels like good news. I am drawn to human life, to human beings: our shadows, our contradictions, clumsiness, desires… I try to bring all of this into my plays. I am also deeply drawn to history. I began studying it after turning thirty, thinking I was wasting my time, and it has become an inseparable part of my dramaturgy and my life.
