Biografía. / Biography.

Francisco Javier Suárez Lema nace en Corcubión, A Coruña. Se muda a Madrid en 2005, donde trabaja como psicólogo. Siempre ha sentido la llamada de la escritura: el mundo del guion de cine, la narrativa, la poesía, pero, sin saber muy bien por qué, comienza enviando, en 2013, a un concurso teatral, un texto que tenía guardado en un cajón desde su etapa universitaria. Gana el primer premio de nuevos dramaturgos y eso hace que reverbere el impulso de continuar. Llegarán, así, desde 2013, diferentes premios importantes, entre otros el Premio Internacional Iberescena 2016, la selección por parte de Acción Cultural Española para ser difundido como autor en Francia, la selección por parte del Bureau des lecteurs de la Comédie Française de una de sus obras, o el Premio Born 2017. Con la escritura disfruta como con pocas cosas junto con la música, el cine o viajar. Por eso se ha convertido ya en una parte imposible de separar de su persona, tanto como intentar separar al bailarín del baile. Ah, y sí, en su teatro siempre se encontrará una autoría que apueste por ensuciarse las manos.

«Francisco Javier Suárez Lema was born in Corcubión, A Coruña. He moved to Madrid in 2005, where he works as a psychologist. Writing has always called to him: screenwriting, narrative, poetry. However, in 2013, for reasons he cannot quite explain, he decided to submit a play he had stored away since his university days to a theater competition. That text won first prize for emerging playwrights, sparking his determination to continue. Since 2013, he has received several major accolades, including the International Iberescena Prize in 2016, selection by Acción Cultural Española to promote his work in France, the selection of one of his plays by the Bureau des Lecteurs of the Comédie Française, and the Born Prize in 2017. Writing brings him unparalleled joy, alongside music, cinema, and traveling. It has become an inseparable part of who he is, as inseparable as a dancer from their dance. «Escribir para profanar. Para sublimar. La escritura transformada en artefacto inquietante, incendiario, revulsivo, activista, ético. Me encantaría parecerme un pelín a Delillo, a Thorton Wilder, O'Neill. Por pedir. Adoro a Nietzsche, a Foucault. A Tarantino y a Von Trier. Mi estilo bebe de todos ellos y de la paranoia, de la ciencia, de los tiempos delirantes que moramos. Hay que ser un héroe para enfrentarse a la moral de una época. ¿Puede hacerlo un dramaturgo desde un lugar de los antihéroes? En mi escritura caben personajes dentro de naves en el espacio hablando sobre el sacrificio, escritoras que creen en la telepatía, ateos que son salvados por una luz esotérica, galeristas de arte que hablan con las estrellas cuando cae la noche porque no tienen con quien hablar, treintañeros en paro que escriben palíndromos en sus horas muertas, activistas que escuchan a Jeff Buckley. «I write to profane. To sublimate. Writing transformed into a disturbing, incendiary, revulsive, activist and ethical artefact. I would love my writing to resound, even a little bit, with the work of Delillo, Thorton Wilder or O’Neill. That’s all I’m asking for. I love Nietzsche and Foucault, Tarantino and Von Trier. My style borrows from each of the above, as well as paranoia, science and the delirious times that we live in. You need to be a hero to tackle the morality of an era. Is a playwright able to do this from an anti-hero position? My writing has space for spaceship passengers talking about sacrifice, female authors who believe in telepathy, atheists who are saved by an esoteric light, owners of art galleries who talk to the stars at night because they have nobody else to talk to, unemployed thirty-somethings who write palindromes to kill the time and activists who listen to Jeff Buckley.
