Sinopsis. / Synopsis.

Nerea se va hoy a Chicago. No sabe por cuánto tiempo, pero se va. Es posible que no tenga coche para ir al aeropuerto, es posible que haya huelga de taxis, es posible que su hermana crea que está en peligro, es posible que sus amigas sean incapaces de ayudarla... incluso es posible que su pasado intente removerle su estado de ánimo... pero hoy Nerea se va a Chicago... hoy... o tal vez mañana... ¿Tú nunca has tenido una obsesión absurda?

Nerea is leaving for Chicago today. She doesn’t know for how long, but she’s going. Maybe she won’t have a car to get to the airport, maybe there’s a taxi strike, maybe her sister thinks she’s in danger, maybe her friends are incapable of helping her… maybe even her past will try to shake her mood… but today, Nerea is leaving for Chicago. Today… or maybe tomorrow. Haven’t you ever had an absurd obsession?

Hay un lugar donde no has estado nunca, pero que estás convencida de que es tu lugar. Un lugar que crees que te permitirá ser tú misma. Un lugar para empezar. Un lugar lejos del lugar donde vives. Un lugar que es posible que no tenga sentido ni lógica, pero es tu lugar. Los anhelos de felicidad hacen que a menudo asociemos este concepto a un lugar concreto, que poco tiene que ver con nosotros, pero que tiene algo que nos fascina y nos hace creer que allí todo será diferente. Una visión casi infantil, donde te puedes llegar a convencer que lo que lees en un libro o ves en una película es un reflejo exacto de lo que te encontrarás. Del mismo modo, cuando llega un impacto, estamos convencidos que todo el mundo debe encajarlo como lo encajaríamos nosotros... sin tener en cuenta el abanico de percepciones y estados de ánimo de cada momento o la personalidad de cada uno. Seguramente es una evidencia, pero olvidamos constantemente que no vivimos bajo un mismo criterio.

There’s a place you’ve never been to, but you’re convinced it’s meant for you. A place you believe will allow you to truly be yourself. A place to begin. A place far from where you live. A place that might not make any sense at all, but still—it’s your place. Our longing for happiness often makes us associate that feeling with a specific place, one that may have little to do with who we really are, yet holds something that fascinates us, something that makes us believe everything will be different there. It’s an almost childlike vision, where you can convince yourself that what you read in a book or see in a film is an exact reflection of what you’ll find. In the same way, when something shakes us, we tend to assume that everyone else will process it the way we would—forgetting the range of moods, perceptions, and personalities that shape each person’s experience. It may be obvious, but we constantly forget that we don’t all live by the same criteria.

Biografía. / Biography.

Isaac Badia concibe el teatro como una herramienta de aprendizaje. Fundador de Companyia Nocturna, con la que se ha dedicado a crear proyectos en los que las artes escénicas sean una fuente de inclusión, difusión y expresión. Estudió interpretación y comunicación audiovisual. Ejerce de profesor de teatro y eso, le ha permitido escribir y dirigir espectáculos de todo tipo, con jóvenes de diferentes edades. Actúa y forma a actores para simulacros de atención psicológica durante la formación de bomberos, policías y médicos, con la finalidad que el teatro sea un mecanismo de aprendizaje para la resolución de posibles conflictos. Dirigió y adaptó la obra de Bill Manhoff ‘El Mussol i la Gata’. Ya como dramaturgo, ‘El Último Tren’, espectáculo que escribió a partir de improvisaciones sobre la espera, como una especie de homenaje a 'Esperando a Godot'. En 2015 se estrenó ‘Los que no hacen nada’ un montaje de política-ficción sobre los "ninis" nacido en sus clases, tras debatir con alumnos la visión y expectativas de futuro. En 2020 obtuvo el Premio Curt de teatre por ‘Pedagogues’. Entre otras obras suyas estrenadas se encuentran ‘Los Gatos del Desván’, ‘Expectativa’ o ‘Fértil’.

Isaac Badia views theatre as a learning tool. He is the founder of Companyia Nocturna, with which he has dedicated himself to creating projects where the performing arts serve as a source of inclusion, outreach, and expression. He studied acting and audiovisual communication. He works as a theatre teacher, which has allowed him to write and direct shows of all kinds, involving young people of different ages. He acts and trains actors for psychological response simulations during the training of firefighters, police officers, and doctors, with the goal of using theatre as a learning mechanism for conflict resolution. He directed and adapted Bill Manhoff's play ‘El Mussol i la Gata’. As a playwright, he wrote ‘El Último Tren’ based on improvisations about waiting, as a kind of tribute to ‘Waiting for Godot’. In 2015, he premiered ‘Los que no hacen nada’, a political fiction play about "ninis" born from debates in his classes regarding students' perspectives and expectations for the future. In 2020, he won the Curt de teatre Award for ‘Pedagogues’. Among his other premiered works are ‘Los Gatos del Desván’, ‘Expectativa’, and ‘Fértil’.

Escritura. / Style.

En el teatro ha encontrado la mejor manera de escuchar y explicar historias. Como profesor de interpretación, se ha pasado más de media vida rodeado de adolescentes y eso le ha marcado en el momento de escribir. Con su obsesión por la etapa que marca el paso previo a ser adultos, suele buscar situaciones que permitan reflexionar sobre el abismo de crecer. Acostumbra a explorar con contextos contemporáneos cargados de diálogos rápidos y directos. La derrota y los espacios encerrados son frecuentes en muchos de sus textos. Su tendencia habitual en buscar profundidad con conversaciones cotidianas, hace que se sienta cómodo en la comedia, a pesar que el trasfondo acostumbre a ser dramático. Le gusta pensar que el teatro da color a las reivindicaciones y ayuda a que el espectador se haga preguntas sobre la condición humana.

In theatre, he has found the best way to listen to and explain stories. As an acting teacher, he has spent more than half his life surrounded by teenagers, which has influenced his writing. With his obsession for the stage that marks the transition into adulthood, he often looks for situations that invite reflection on the abyss of growing up. He tends to explore contemporary contexts filled with fast and direct dialogues. Defeat and enclosed spaces are frequent themes in many of his works. His usual tendency to seek depth through everyday conversations makes him comfortable in comedy, even though the underlying themes are often dramatic. He likes to think that theatre adds color to social claims and helps the audience question the human condition.
